VOMITORIAL CORPULENCE - Martyrdomical Symphonanthem

Hailing from Australia’s extensive metal underground, Melbourne gore grinding purveyors of deathly chaos VOMITORIAL CORPULENCE have a new album Martyrdomical Symphonanthem, set to be released upon an unsuspecting world by Rottweiler Records. Featuring long term conspirator Paul Green at the helm and now in charge of all things musical, vocal and lyrical in what is essentially a one-man band, this album explores some new territories that are in stark contrast as compared to previous outings.

With an extensive history that began at the inception of the early 1990’s, the band once described as ‘Christian goregrind’ has undergone several lineup changes and featured on various compilations as well their own previous releases. As their last known release dates to 2006, many would’ve thought they ended their days all those years ago… alas not, as the coals were still burning and ready to fire again someday.

‍

Martyrdomical Symphonanthem is a dense journey comprised of 41 maniacal tracks that push the hourglass aside resulting in a 64-minute opus of metallic goregrind chaos. Production values are crisp and clean, with crunchy guitars blazing endless riffs, slick leads and frenetic solos that feel strongly Hanneman-King inspired. Vocals are mostly compressed guttural roars and snidey rasps that imbue an urgency of grimy volitions and Anthro-pathological horror. Being a grind album, the pace is mostly constant high tempos of snappy blast beats, rapid-fire snares and unrelenting cymbal abuse.

Lyrical themes seem to focus on concepts of religious persecution and systemic failures espoused with an acrimonious malignancy. Songs are short, fast, and some seemingly framed from similar templates, yet they all feel very heavy, catchy and energetic. Aside from the gore-grind labelling, there are notable influences from death-metal, thrash and raw grind mixed with occasional rock-like groove breakdowns; kinda think Hate Eternal’s brutality meeting Slayer’s aggression delivered with Insect Warfare’s intensity. Of the numerous tracks on this album, standouts include Saint Eulalia: Dissected and Boiled Alive, Paltith Burnt To A Crisp, Suffocating Immersion, Headshot Habakkuk, Acta Martyrum, and Splatterdom.

‍

While the fermentation has been long and arduous for two decades, the outcome is a nasty assault of explosions ensconced with elements of sardonic humour and belittling scorn. For the grind freaks into Brutal Truth, Pulpit Vomit, Rotten Sound, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, the veracity of Martyrdomical Symphonanthem is a schizo-sonic adventure that will appease those in their endless grind quests. VOMITORIAL CORPULENCE has once again defied the rules of time and space and delivered us with a clarion blasterpiece that challenges impiety with depravity.
