(Out now via MDD Records) Germany’s SOUL GRINDER don’t do easy listening. Their third full length, Frozen Halls, is a cold, relentless piece of DM that feels as raw and unforgiving as the name suggests. Across ten tracks, the Bremen trio deliver a masterclass in brutality which is OG in spirit but sharp enough to cut through the modern production glass.

Cursed Covenant” opens the record with immediate intent, blast beats, guttural lows, and riffs that grind through bone. The title track keeps the pressure on, while “Malevolent Reality,” featuring Tetzel from @asenblutofficial injects an extra layer of chaos without ever losing focus. It’s clear these guys know what they’re doing, writing death metal that’s mean, & stripped of anything unnecessary.
There’s a genuine sense of atmosphere running through the record too. Between the Lovecraftian imagery and bleak reflections on death and human cruelty, Frozen Halls manages to sound both cosmic and claustrophobic. It’s not just fast for the hell of it, everything feels deliberate, channeling decades of influence without ever sounding derivative.
When closing track “Towards a Silent Grave” fades out, you’re left in awe of just how tight and ferocious this band has become. Frozen Halls is a definite game changer in the world of Death Metal & we’re all for smashing that repeat button on this release. Kudos Soulgrinder 🤘🏾
