SKUMSTRIKE - Flawless Intrigue from Hel

We kick things off with 'Death Reckoning', greeted by manic laughter and what sounds like either a revving motorbike or chainsaw tearing through the background. Chaotic drumming quickly joins the attack, although it sits slightly too high in the mix at times and threatens to overpower the spat-out screams and snarling vocal delivery. The pace remains relentlessly fast, driven by commanding riffs with their roots planted deep in thrash metal. And just when you think the track has thrown everything at you, a ripping solo arrives towards the end, because honestly, who doesn't love a good solo to finish the job?

With 'Braise the Dead', there is no need for foreplay, we plunge straight into full-on speed metal madness. Black metal-infused vocals tear across merciless riffs and hammering drums, while the relentless pace barely leaves room to catch your breath. There is an immediate physical energy to the whole thing, and played live, this feels destined to pave the way for some seriously violent moshpits.

Next up is the title track, 'Flawless Intrigue from Hell', where the instrumentation and overall composition lean more noticeably into thrash territory. Vocally, however, SKUMSTRIKE remain closer to black metal, with subtle death metal undertones lurking beneath the surface. The sheer speed becomes almost dizzying, at one point, the relentless momentum genuinely starts making me feel slightly nauseous. Towards the end, those previously restrained death metal influences finally break loose as the vocals descend into full-blown death metal territory, only for the track to cut off abruptly before you have much chance to recover.

'Ironclad Fate' launches into another manic attack, somehow sounding even rawer and more unhinged than what came before. By this point, it is obvious that SKUMSTRIKE has absolutely no intention of slowing down or approaching anything with caution. This is straightforward speed metal loaded with serious old-school spirit, driven by reckless momentum and an almost deliberately filthy edge. Dirty, wild and completely unapologetic, exactly how this kind of music should sound.

'Glacial Winds of Perdition' is another great example of the sheer passion driving SKUMSTRIKE forward. For once, the bass gets some welcome room to brood before hammering drums and cutting, fast-paced riffs drag us straight back into the attack. Sometimes in reviews I find myself saying, "this album needs time", Not this one. Flawless Intrigue from Hell lands immediately, whether you like it or not, leaving very little room for hesitation or indifference. Raw, passionate and relentlessly direct, 'Glacial Winds of Perdition' is a great track to lead us towards the final stretch.

And there we have it, closer 'Satanic Metal Fucking Hell'. With a name like that, you already know this one means business. A cover of Japanese thrash maniacs ABIGAIL, SKUMSTRIKE tear through the track at full speed, accompanied by some of the most primal vocals heard anywhere on the album. Dark, sinister and delivered with a venomous, spat-out edge, it feels perfectly designed to drain whatever energy you might still have left. As the song progresses, the performance becomes increasingly chaotic, pushing further and further towards complete disorder until the sound of breaking glass suddenly brings everything to an end. One final act of destruction, and then it's over.

With "Flawless Intrigue from Hell", SKUMSTRIKE deliver a filthy, reckless collision of speed, thrash, black and death metal that rarely stops to catch its breath. Raw vocals, cutting riffs and relentless drumming make this an exhausting but ridiculously entertaining ride. This isn't an album that needs time, it hits immediately, whether you like it or not. Dirty, wild and unapologetically old school, SKUMSTRIKE leave very little standing once the glass finally breaks.
