Release June 4th via Bleeding Art Collective / Blood Blast Distribution - From Southeastern Michigan comes My Own Will, a hardcore metal act steeped in death metal roots. Their newest EP Misery is a short one, but rest assured it is packed with enough sound and exploding with energy to feel like a full-length, not lacking in merciless beats, gritty vocals and distortion.

The band spares no mercy kicking off with “Misery,” full of percussive bangs and heavy chugs. It expresses intense hatred and envelops the listener’s being with no sparing of the eardrums – if one isn’t familiar with My Own Will as a sound, they very quickly will be. The wall of sound is textured, crunchy and heavy.
Vocalist David Keoppen goes hard on the vocals, putting his entire being into the performance – you can hear what he calls forth from his lungs in all its gritty depth. The length of his vocals on “Forsaken” is impressive and clean. The band’s sound compliments the raw, unprocessed emotion and creates pure aggression in its wake. “Rorscach” is just as intense as the track before it, blasting with heavy drums and guitars full of depth and chaotic shreds.
Closing track “Phobos” ends the onslaught with a brutal finale, slower than its accompanying tracks but unstoppable in its spaced out percussion and fade that echoes until the very last second.
Misery is explosive, aggressive and ruthless. It’s a rampage that storms through in a matter of minutes, but leaves an impression with one’s ears ringing in its destructive wake.
SCORE 8/10
