MOUNTAINSCAPE - TRAVERSING REALMS

Release Date: 24 July 2026 via ROAD TO MASOCHIST - Since emerging in 2019, Reading, England-based post-metal outfit MOUNTAINSCAPE have steadily established themselves through their expansive, cinematic approach to the genre. Following the critical success of Iridescent (2024), the band returned with their fourth full-length, "Traversing Realms". Drawing inspiration from the music, stories, and imagined worlds that have shaped their creative vision, the album marks another step forward in the band's artistic evolution. Let's see where this latest journey leads.

'Dune' opens "Traversing Realms" with breathtaking confidence, immediately immersing the listener in MOUNTAINSCAPE's vast sonic landscape. Ethereal guest vocals from Amaya López-Carromero (Maud the Moth) glide effortlessly across the opening passages, creating a fragile beauty that contrasts wonderfully with the immense weight waiting beneath the surface. As the song unfolds, soaring melodies and atmospheric textures steadily build before crashing into thunderous double bass, towering riffs, and a surge of controlled chaos. Yet even at its heaviest, the composition never loses its emotional core, with López-Carromero's voice acting as a guiding light through the storm. Inspired by Hans Zimmer's celebrated scores for the recent Dune films, MOUNTAINSCAPE does far more than reinterpret familiar themes. They dismantle them, reshape them, and ultimately transform them into something deeply personal, preserving the cinematic grandeur while forging an identity entirely their own. It is a magnificent introduction to the journey that follows.

‍

'The Elder Scrolls' continues the album's cinematic journey with remarkable elegance. Drawing inspiration from Jeremy Soule's iconic scores for "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" and "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim", MOUNTAINSCAPE capture the same sense of wonder, melancholy, and adventure that made those soundtracks so unforgettable. Rich atmospheric textures, a commanding rhythm section, and breathtaking melodic passages gradually give way to explosive blast beats, creating a thrilling contrast between serenity and overwhelming power. For anyone who has wandered the roads of Skyrim or explored the forgotten ruins of Tamriel, the emotional connection is undeniable. Yet even without that shared nostalgia, the composition stands on its own as a beautifully crafted and deeply immersive piece of music.

'Closure' brings "Traversing Realms" to a magnificent conclusion, drawing together everything that has defined the album's remarkable journey. Built around deeply personal themes of loss and remembrance, the composition unfolds with striking patience, allowing expansive guitar melodies, subtle ambient passages, and a beautifully integrated string quartet to shine before erupting into towering post-metal crescendos and blackgaze intensity. The contrast between quiet reflection and overwhelming power is handled with exceptional care, making every emotional shift feel genuine and earned. Rich in atmosphere, detail, and heartfelt musicianship, 'Closure'is more than a fitting finale—it is the emotional heart of an album that leaves a lasting impression long after its final note has faded.

‍

With "Traversing Realms", MOUNTAINSCAPE have crafted far more than another post-metal album—they have created a deeply immersive musical experience. Through exceptional musicianship, breathtaking atmosphere, and a masterful balance between crushing heaviness and fragile beauty, the band transform familiar inspirations into something unmistakably their own. A captivating journey from beginning to end, "Traversing Realms" is an outstanding achievement that demands to be experienced in its entirety.
