Release Date: 3 July 2026 - Some bands introduce themselves with infectious grooves, others with technical precision or memorable melodies. Bristol crossover thrash newcomers MARTYR'S SAINT choose a far more direct approach. On their debut EP, the quartet launch an uncompromising assault that fuses the raw aggression of hardcore with the speed and razor-sharp precision of thrash metal. Whether that explosive formula holds up across all four tracks is exactly what we're about to find out.

The title track opens the EP with an uncompromising burst of energy, immediately showcasing the band's crossover thrash credentials. MARTYR'S SAINT build the track around crushing riffs and an unmistakable hardcore vocal delivery, creating a sound that feels raw, abrasive, and refreshingly unfiltered. While the production retains a rough edge, it suits the music's confrontational nature perfectly. Around the midpoint, the song shifts into a more chaotic passage, yet the musicianship remains tightly controlled. It is here that the band’s melodic thrash influences become more pronounced, complementing the hardcore backbone and giving the track an added sense of depth. 'Enemy of My Enemy' leaves even less room to catch your breath. MARTYR'S SAINT crank the intensity up another notch with relentless drumming and razor-sharp riffs that balance melody with unfiltered aggression. The vocals carry an unmistakable hardcore attitude, delivered with venom and conviction, perfectly matching the song's breakneck pace. A well-executed guitar solo provides a welcome flash of classic thrash flair while retaining the raw edge that defines the EP. With its explosive energy and uncompromising drive, this feels tailor-made to ignite a mosh pit from the very first note.
'In Amber' reveals a different side of MARTYR'S SAINT. Opening with beautifully intertwined dual guitars, the track initially abandons the EP’s relentless aggression in favor of a calmer, more melodic atmosphere. It’s a welcome shift in pacing and one of the release’s standout moments, proving the band are capable of more than sheer intensity. Gradually, the drums and bass enter with measured confidence, slowly rebuilding the song’s momentum. Clean vocals then take center stage, carrying a genuine sense of urgency and emotional weight before becoming increasingly raspy and throatier as the tension rises. During its final two minutes, 'In Amber' transforms once more, with melancholic riffs giving way to a faster and heavier climax before the song quietly fades into silence. Closing the EP, 'The Divine Art of War' delivers one final burst of crossover aggression. MARTYR'S SAINT opens the track with galloping drums and a driving riff that immediately evokes the feeling of charging into battle. Musically, the song leans more heavily into its thrash roots, but it never abandons the hardcore influence that has shaped the EP from the beginning. Once the vocals erupt, they arrive with pure hardcore attitude, spat out with venom, urgency, and absolutely no restraint. It’s this seamless fusion of razor-sharp thrash riffing and uncompromising hardcore energy that makes the track such a fitting closer. The breakdown in the bridge is particularly effective, injecting the song with enough raw force to make it feel destined for absolute chaos in the pit.
With their debut EP, MARTYR'S SAINT made an emphatic first impression. Blending the speed and precision of thrash with the raw attitude of hardcore, the band deliver four tracks packed with aggression, memorable riffs, and enough variety to avoid feeling one-dimensional. While there is still room for refinement, the songwriting already shows genuine promise. If this EP is any indication, MARTYR'S SAINT is a name well worth keeping an eye on in the crossover thrash scene.
