FROZEN FACTOR – Apocalypse Inc

OUT NOW via Wormholedeath Records - With Apocalypse Inc., FROZEN FACTORY unleash their fourth studio album, and it’s their most compelling and intense statement to date. Since forming in 2018, the Finnish quintet has earned a name for blending progressive metal, dramatic rock, and socially charged themes into a sound that’s both cinematic and cutting. Following Planted Feet (2020), Of Pearls & Perils (2022), and a series of singles across 2023–2024, this latest release marks a bold evolution: a concept-driven examination of power, deception, and the perils of a world ruled by greed.

The album opens with 'Apoca-Lip-Sync', immediately drawing the listener into a journey that is as unpredictable as it is theatrical. What starts as a straightforward rock track quickly shifts around 1:50, introducing a martial choir and subtle musical-theatre flourishes, blending drama with critique. The song is emotional and melodic, lambasting the futility of certain human pursuits. 'Can’t Fight the Spiral' follows, steeped in tension and a sense of inescapable momentum—a reflection on the pull of forces beyond control. In contrast, 'Call Off the Firing Squad' slows the pace with a ballad-like quality, its memorable melody sinking in with ease. Energy spikes again with 'Get More Stupid', where rapid tempo changes and an ear-catching refrain demand focus. Moments of light arrive in 'The Nothing I Want More', which juxtaposes buoyant melodies with biting social commentary: “we’re drawn in by revelations,” “suppressed by God’s henchman, dictated from the throne”. The track’s clever blend of optimism and critique highlights FROZEN FACTORY's skill at balancing accessibility with weighty themes. 'Slip Into Bed' opens with a psychedelic undertone that immediately evokes shades of PINK FLOYD. The track mesmerizes with its steady, hypnotic drum patterns, finely textured guitars, and a narrative introduction—“War of the world”—that pulls the listener into its cinematic soundscape. It’s a track that showcases the band’s ability to build tension and atmosphere, balancing prog-rock intricacy with emotional resonance. Following this, 'Petrov’s Light' highlights the band’s versatility. A subtle nod to DEPECHE MODE intertwines with melancholic progressive elements, creating a layered, ear-catching melody that lingers long after the song ends. The track demonstrates how the band can move effortlessly between introspective moods and catchy hooks, keeping the listener engaged across different sonic textures. In contrast, 'Interstellar' slows the pace, offering the album’s intimate, reflective moment. Its sustained, emotive melody has a cinematic quality, practically demanding lighters—or even the imagination of an audience—to rise in unison. Here, the band reveals their ability to craft not just songs, but moments: immersive, evocative, and deeply human amidst the album’s broader musical journey.

Guest vocalist Riina Rinkinen lends a fragile, haunting presence to the already introspective ballad 'Reach Through the Waves'. Her gentle, ethereal delivery amplifies the song’s melancholic core, perfectly underscoring its exploration of control and suppressed potential—“…when I sense potential they forbid us to use, I wish I could help you…”—creating a tension between longing and resignation. Instrumentally, the track is carefully harmonized, with subtle interplay between guitars and keys that allows Rinkinen’s voice to soar without being overwhelmed. As the album draws to a close, it leads the listener into a contemplative dead end, framed by the chilling refrain “…welcome to dead end journeys… 'Happy ending not included'. In these final moments, the band balances clarity and emotion, leaving a lasting impression of both narrative and atmosphere while emphasizing the album’s overarching themes of power, restriction, and the human struggle to find freedom within imposed boundaries.

‍

Conclusion: It’s hard to imagine an album more dramatic and progressive. Brutally honest and without any sugarcoating, they criticize selfishness, ambition, and flawed behavior with heavy riffs. Almost an hour of apocalyptic atmosphere is fused with a magical sound. A record meant to awaken and provoke reflection—more thematically relevant than ever. Notably, the well-executed shifts in mood within the songs stand out.
