Since emerging in 2017 with their first demo, CRYPTWORM have steadily built a reputation for unrelenting extremity. With two EPs, a split, and a pair of full-lengths under their belt, their grotesquely titled releases-Reeking Gunk of Abhorrence and Spewing Mephitic Putridity-offer a clear promise of sonic carnage. After the 2023 maelstrom Oozing Radioactive Vomition, expectations were sky-high. Now, ME SACO UN OJO RECORDS and EXTREMELY ROTTEN PRODUCTIONS unveil CRYPTWORM’S third album, "Infectious Pathological Waste", set to deliver another dose of their vile, uncompromising death metal.

The album kicks off with 'Gallons of Molten Hominal Goo', immediately leaving no doubt that CRYPTWORM thrive in the macabre. Animalistic growls, often rooted in disturbingly pig-like screams, collide with old-school death metal riffs that shift easily between slow passages and mid-tempo assaults, occasionally evoking the rhythmic punch of Gore-themed attacks before erupting into full-blown blasting sections. The track is brief, but the thick, heavy, driving riffs and the infectious mid-tempo grooves more than make up for it. It’s filthy, abrasive, and raw, but once you get accustomed to its unrelenting nastiness, it’s a wildly satisfying start to the record. The intensity ramps up immediately as CRYPTWORM unleashes a furious pace, trading sheer speed for dynamic interplay that never feels overblown. In 'Maimed and Gutted' scorching riffs slice through the mix without relying on blast beats, giving each passage room to strike with maximum impact. Sudden shifts into groovy, almost punishing sections hit like a battering force, keeping the energy wild and chaotic yet tightly controlled. Rhythm and tempo changes collide seamlessly, driving a ceaseless onslaught that commands attention. Just when the track seems to reach its end, the band returns with one final, devastating flurry of riffs, leaving the listener both battered and exhilarated. From the very first tone, 'Drowning in Purulent Excrementia' plunges the listener into CRYPTWORM’S merciless world. Crushing riffs and savage guttural vocals dominate, backed by a raw, filthy production that perfectly captures the band’s unrestrained aggression. Short bursts of groove and a fleeting bass solo add texture, but the track remains a high-speed onslaught throughout. The riffs never feel stale; they’re electrifying, chaotic, and gripping. Just when it seems the carnage has ended, Cryptworm returns with another round of brutal riffing, leaving no room for respite. Old-school, dirty, and technically precise, the song embodies everything fans expect from the band.
Fans of extreme death metal will find plenty to admire in CRYPTWORM’S latest work, even if the cavernous guttural vocals aren’t for everyone. The band’s songwriting has matured considerably, with tracks like the title track 'Infectious Pathological Waste' and the merciless 'Embedded With Parasitic Larvae' showcasing riffs rich in detail and ferocity. This is old-school brutal death metal executed with precision, spiced with technical flourishes and unique touches that keep the listener fully engaged. The groovy sections practically demand headbanging, while the deep, occasionally grotesque vocals add a visceral punch that lingers long after the music stops. Closing up the album, 'Encephalic Feast' eases the audience in with a slow, creeping crawl, deceptively simple riffs, and a heavy, head-nodding rhythm. Eerie vocal quirks and unsettling noises heighten the tense atmosphere as the track steadily builds. When the full-scale attack finally lands, it hits with ferocity-intense, brutal, and unrelenting. While it may not flaunt the same technical brilliance as earlier cuts, it serves as a perfectly savage and immersive finale to the record.
'Infectious Pathological Waste' cements CRYPTWORM’S status in extreme death metal, delivering macabre, technically sharp riffs, crushing rhythms, and guttural vocals that hit with relentless force. Filthy, old-school, and brutally engaging, the album is a punishing journey that fans of raw, uncompromising death metal won’t want to miss.
