Conjurer – Unself

Out now vía @NuclearBlast There’s always been something uniquely suffocating about @Conjurer’s sound. A molten fusion of sludge, post-metal, and deathly dissonance that feels equally cathartic and collapse. On Unself, the Midlands quartet take that familiar heaviness and drag it somewhere deeply human in an unflinching portrait of identity, transformation, and pain.

Vocalist/guitarist @DaniNightingale’s personal journey through autism diagnosis and self discovery as non-binary sits at the album’s emotional core, and you can feel it in every pained scream and tectonic groove. The title track’s haunting acoustic introduction quickly dissolves into chaos, while “There Is No Warmth” and “The Searing Glow” strike an uneasy balance between beauty and brutality. By the time the pin has been pulled and “Hang Them In Your Head” detonates, Conjurer are firing on all cylinders, tighter, meaner, and more purposeful than ever.

‍

What’s most striking about Unself is how it marries that raw emotion with newfound restraint. Producer @JoeClayton helps carve space into the band’s dense sound, letting moments of quiet introspection bleed into gut punch heaviness. With the result feeling less like Mire’s wide eyed debut energy or Páthos’ conceptual sprawl & more like a band rediscovering themselves through honesty and pain.

Unself isn’t reinvention, it’s pure revelation, with Conjurer stripping everything back to the bone and in doing so, sounding more alive, & more vital than ever.

Standouts: “There Is No Warmth,” “Hang Them In Your Head,” “Foreclosure”
