Written across 2 years, “War That I’m Waging” has been detonating on Whisperhead’s set list over the last 12 months, delivered with fury and ruthless precision across the country. Vocalist, Nolan Furnell, reflects on what inspired him:
“Holding my son for the first time, a profound realisation washed over me. I cannot simply wish for him to become a man of substance; I have to show him what that looks like. It ignited a fierce commitment to actively forge a better version of myself. If I want him to navigate the world with strength, integrity and character, I must first relentlessly pursue my own. This means doing the quiet, heavy work of healing my wounds, growing my resilience and striving to become everything I want him to see in himself.”
With such a long creative process, “War That I’m Waging” definitely wasn’t typical of their usual methods. Furnell elaborates:
"This track started as salvage. Troy wrote a killer verse riff for a song we ended up scrapping after a couple of gigs. I was so hooked on that riff, I convinced him to let me hijack it for a new idea I was cooking up. After they heard the first demo the whole band came right back with: 'Zero notes. It’s done.' What you hear on the record is pretty much 1:1 with that exact home demo, so it’s really organic.
“We also had a crazy shift mid-recording when we changed drummers. We gave Sab total freedom to rewrite the drum tracks, but he loved Dylan’s parts so much he kept them in saying 'No, these are untouchable.'
“We recorded half at home and half at Tommirock Studios in Newcastle with Mitta Norath, who also brought the heat mixing it.
“Honestly, this single hits differently for us. It’s the first time we’ve built up this insane live momentum before dropping a track. Every time we play it live, the crowd goes wild. People have been screaming at us to release it properly for ages, so finally handing it over feels incredible.”
This thrilling new single is an exhilarating, high-energy anthem, anchored by grim industrial production, eerie textures and a gig-friendly battle cry that will have punters chanting. “War That I’m Waging” delivers a cathartic sonic journey that is challenging, unexpected and as heavy as the inner journey to the darkest parts of the psyche that inspired it.

ABOUT WHISPERHEAD
Clawing their way out of the long, dusty shadows of Dubbo in western New South Wales in 2022, Whisperhead weaponises volatile, neck-snapping grooves, razor-sharp riffs and a throat-shredding vocal performance built to incite a riot. Unfiltered aggression and an almost industrial pulse, the live show is an explosive whirlwind of tension and release, with a heavy-as-lead sensibility.
Whisperhead have blazed on festival stages including Thrashville, Mirkwood Metalfest, Devouring the Flesh and ArkFest. They have shredded with fellow heavies such as Windwaker , Diamond Construct, Thraxas, Diskust, Total Buzzkill, Pyrokinesis, Violent/Conflict, Arkangel, Deadweight 80, Vault Hill, Spacegoat and All Monsters Are Human.
From tearing up the road on the 2023 "Trauma" tour to founding regional metal main event Whisperfest, Whisperhead doesn't know any way to move except full throttle. Following 2024's "Exile" tour, they unleashed "My Game, My Rules" in 2025, igniting pits across NSW, VIC and QLD. This was quickly followed by a dominating return to venues across the East Coast on the "Sterilise" tour in 2025.
Whisperhead is pure kinetic chaos and hits like an adrenaline shot to the spine: a collision of pit-shredding metalcore riffs, pitch-black industrial grime and grimace-inducing hooks built to blow out speakers with an intensity that screams straight off the edge.
