OBSCURA QALMA Releases New Single “Hollow Bastion” from Upcoming Album “Immortality Through Ashes”

Venice-based orchestral blackened death metal unit OBSCURA QALMA has released the new single “Hollow Bastion,” taken from the band’s upcoming album “Immortality Through Ashes,” slated for release on October 23rd via Dusktone.

“Hollow Bastion” takes us deeper into the final stages of the album’s dark journey. The song follows the protagonist beyond his first physical death, through resuscitation and into a second, and far more devastating, death.

‍

The song unfolds as a passage through a cold, vaulted hall; a liminal space that mirrors his descent into a state that is neither life nor complete death. As he moves through this desolate realm, we hear his thoughts unfold. He describes what surrounds him while desperately attempting to recover fragments of his past, only to find his memories slipping further away. Once intoxicated by a supernatural gift he could never fully satisfy, his arrogance has ultimately cost him everything.

‍

The track features Joe Sinclair, former vocalist of She Must Burn and current frontman of HeartRitual. His distinctive, vampiric presence and haunting, horror-tinged vocals were a natural fit for the song’s unsettling atmosphere, adding another layer of darkness to the protagonist’s descent.

“Immortality Through Ashes” is the second full-length album from OBSCURA QALMA and the band’s second release on Italian label Dusktone, following the 2024 EP “Veils Of Transcendence.” Building on their signature orchestral blackened death metal, the album pushes the band’s sound into darker, more expansive territory, incorporating elements of deathcore, industrial metal, technical death metal, and blackgaze. Conceptually, “Immortality Through Ashes” unfolds across eight chapters exploring the meanders of the human condition. Drawing inspiration from the works of Goethe, Kant, and Baudelaire, the album reimagines the figure of Faust through a contemporary lens, confronting themes of desire, transcendence, suffering, egoism, and pride.
