Mirrors sign to Greyscale Records + announce long-awaited sophomore album out in November

For Mirrors, The Red Sky is a glimmering exploration of apocalypse as both a means of destruction and a pathway to cleansing and reconstruction. Told through both literal and metaphorical lenses, the album examines the moments in life that completely dismantle our understanding of the world around us. "In different times in everyone’s lives, we all experience these moments," says the band. "Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, an individual who breaks us down or a literal force of nature that leaves us wondering what we have left. However, these moments also present the opportunity to grow, discover something new and build something to withstand the next storm."

"Devil’s Due" heralds Mirrors return and lyrically confronts the figure that pushes us towards self destruction. That figure can manifest as someone in our lives whose influence brings out the worst in us, or as an internal voice that takes control and pulls us further from the person we want to be. "Devil’s Due" is about recognising what, or who, needs to be cast aside in order to become better for ourselves and the people around us. Watch the video here.

Their long-awaited sophomore album announcement also sees Mirrors officially join the Greyscale Records family, a partnership that arrives with a renewed sense of momentum for the band. "Signing to Greyscale has been phenomenal thus far, it was an obvious choice when looking at where we wanted to release our music," the band shares. "The collaboration we’ve experienced since signing on has really breathed a lot of life into the band, because we can enjoy the feeling of having a team of experienced and enthusiastic individuals making sure our music is heard, while lending their years of industry bonafides to our career. It brings a lot of confidence to our future."

While "Devil’s Due" is the latest glimpse into The Red Sky, last year’s haunting and immersive single "Vestige" can now be revealed as the album’s first offering. Produced by Ionei Heckenberg (Ocean Sleeper) and mixed and mastered by Lance Prenc (Polaris, Alpha Wolf), "Vestige" explores the tumultuous yet transformative journey of self-discovery and resilience. Built around riff-heavy, dreamy melodies and lyrical depth, the track journeys from personal struggles towards the light, capturing the process of emerging from darkness with a stronger understanding of who we are and what we deserve.

Formed in Gippsland in late 2016 by vocalist Patty Goodman and guitarist Tyson Taifer, Mirrors quickly established themselves as a formidable force within Australia’s heavy music scene. Joined by bassist Jack Mackin and drummer Rob Brens, the band turned national attention towards Regional Victoria with the release of their debut EP, Fool’s Paradise, in 2017.

Its 2019 followup, Cold Sanctuary, took the band beyond the borders of Victoria and around the country, showcasing their craft to audiences on tour with the likes of Wage War (US), Alpha Wolf, Thornhill, Crystal Lake (JPN) and many more. Ceaseless work by the band alongside the production team of Scott Simpson and Lance Prenc (Polaris, Alpha Wolf) began in 2019 and throughout 2020, culminating with an eleven track, genre busting tour de force, in their debut album The Ego’s Weight.

A genre-spanning and deeply introspective record, The Ego’s Weight explored the fall of morality and values while confronting hate and the forces that threaten to consume us. From sparse grooves and gutwrenching ballads to gigantic riffs and frenetic heavy compositions, the album showcased the full breadth of Mirrors’ songwriting and earned the band a nomination for Best Independent Heavy Album or EP at the 2022 AIR Awards. The album also opened the door to some of the band’s biggest moments to date, including appearances at Knight and Day Festival, UNIFY Forever, UNIFY On The Road and Froth & Fury Festival, alongside national headline tours and support slots with Polaris, While She Sleeps, Loathe and more.
