The next phase starts now.

What started as a YouTube platform giving Australian bands a voice has grown into a network connecting artists, labels, promoters, photographers, contributors and fans. Now, we're bringing the magazine to life in print and onto the shelves of independent record stores.

‍

A massive thank you to everyone who provided feedback throughout the test-print phase. Your input helped refine the magazine and prepare it for release. Now, we're ready to take the next step.

THREE EDITIONS. THE NEXT CHAPTER OF BENEATH THE SURFACE.

ISSUE 10 — STANDARD EDITION

Release date: 10 November 2026

Issue 10 launches the print pilot, with an initial run of 100 copies planned. Featuring an Australian metal act on the cover, it will be the first edition available for sale in print. Copies will be available through the Headbangers Australia online store and participating independent record stores. As always, the cover artist will be revealed on release day.

ISSUE 11 — EXTREME METAL UNDERGROUND EDITION

Release date: 8 December 2026

Delving further into the underground, Issue 11 celebrates the raw sounds, uncompromising artists and spirit that keep the genre alive. The edition is currently in pre-production, with pre-orders expected to open in late November.

ISSUE 12 — WOMEN IN METAL EDITION

Target release: February–March 2027

This upcoming edition will celebrate women shaping underground metal and the community. Development is ongoing, with further details to be announced as plans are confirmed.
